The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is always something special. Every year since 1950, it has continually been the most distinguished showcase for automotive elegance. Passionate collectors and fans come from across the world to share their love of classic, rare, and most of all, beautiful cars. Mercedes-Benz has been a regular presence over the years and have won more than 120 class victories and special prizes, along with the coveted "Best of Show" award a few times.
And now, Mercedes-Benz USA has just announced they will be presenting a special exhibition on the topic of "125 years inventor of the automobile" at this year's event. Some of the cars they will put on display include a racing car designed by Wilhelm Maybach in 1906. It was one of the most advanced vehicles of the time due to its six-cylinder engine with overhead camshafts, overhead valves, and a dual high-voltage spark plug ignition. Also to be displayed is a reproduction of a 1909 Benz, called the "Blitzen Benz," which was the first gas-powered automobile in the world to post speeds over 200km/h (124 mph).
Other cars to be displayed in the Mercedes-Benz pavilion will include a replica 1886 Benz Patent Motor Car, a 1939 Silver Arrow W 154 Grand Prix racing car, a 1954 300 SL Gullwing, and a 1958 220 SE. The German automaker will also bring in concept versions of the SLS AMG Roadster and the next generation A-Class to represent the immediate future. The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance begins on August 17th until the 21st.
