Some people enjoy the simple comforts of luxury vehicles while others do everything they can to customize and individualize their cars to stand out in a crowd. Here are five of Mercedes Benz’s most exotic versions of their luxury vehicles.
Mercedes Benz creates limited and exclusive editions of their luxury vehicles for elite customers. Here is just a sample of what the German carmaker is capable of.
1) 1937 Mercedes 540K
Few cars come close to this particular model of Mercedes Benz, which combines class and exclusivity. Only 406 of these cars were ever produced and there are only 3 functions pieces remaining. The car was first put into production in 1936 and had an 8-cylinder engine that could give out 180 JP of displacement and a top speed of 160 km/ph. The car has changed hands with well-known owners around the world, including Bernie Ecclestone who purchased the vehicle for $8.25 million in 2007. The 1937 Mercedes 540K is currently the most expensive Mercedes to be sold at auction. [Pic: BenzInsider]
2) Maybach Edition 125
While celebrating its 125th anniversary, Mercedes introduced a special series of its flagship car, the Maybach, which featured exclusive detailing of Swarovski crystals on the interiors. In addition, the car was made with a LED lighted and laser engraved logo of Maybach on the back center armrest and a Wilhelm Maybach signature stitched on the opening switch of the glove compartment. Upholstery was black leather with silver colored linings and featured carbon trimmings in numerous places. Outside, the car featured a Tahiti black and Patagonia silver paint job with a special front bumper, LED running lights, redesigned front grille and 19-inch wheels. Though the masterpiece never went on sale, wealthy customers could have these same customizations done on order. [Pic: MotoWard]
3) Mercedes G55 AMG
This car is truly a one-of-a-kind. Produced as an escorting vehicle for the royal family of Abu Dhabi, the engine of this custom SUV was a 5.5 liter V8 capable of delivering 620 HP of displacement and had 22-inch alloy rims. The body featured a number of components in carbon fiver along with 8 fog lamps to maintain visibility dyring the night time near the dessert. Inside, upholstery was done in cinnamon colored leather with some fixtures in carbon fiber. [Pic: DragTimes]
4) Mercedes Benz C63 AMG gold plated
While the owner of this lavish vehicle has remained anonymous to avoid publicity, all that is known is that it belongs to someone extremely wealthy from the Gulf region. In addition to the gold plating, there are also numerous embellishments with precious gemstones that add even more exclusivity to the vehicle. [Pic: FunkMasterFlex]
5) Mercedes Benz diamond covered SL
While some people buy cars to get from point A to point B, the owner of this incredible Mercedes SL is probably prone to taking the long route to show off his ride. An unknown individual had his white convertible Mercedes Benz SL embellished with diamonds and in addition to other lavish customizations, there are finished alloy wheels. [Pic: TrendHunter]

Just the Facts:
FRANKFURT, Germany — The 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLC sedan will make its world debut at the 2012 New York Auto according to company officials. The all-new sedan will mimic the "coupe" styling used by the larger CLS sedan.
The introduction of the CLC will mark the beginning of a push by Mercedes-Benz to enter the higher-volume, entry-level luxury market below the current C-Class. Executives were quick to emphasize that the CLC will not be a stripped-down, price leader model. "This will be a real Mercedes-Benz," one executive stressed.
Although not confirmed, a compact SUV is expected to follow shortly after the CLC and may be called the GLC. Both vehicles are expected to ride on Mercedes' new Modular Front Architecture (MFA), an all-new front-wheel drive platform introduced on the latest B-Class hatchback.
Spy video of the new CLC sedan shows a profile very similar to the current CLS with a sloping roof line that looks more like a coupe than a traditional sedan.
Inside Line says: Mercedes is easing its way into a lower price class with the stylish CLC instead of diving in head first with the B-Class. Smart move.

A Santa Monica, California barn find may be the last of the truly great missing classic car discoveries: the only one of the 29 alloy-bodied 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL gullwing coupes not already accounted for.
Chassis number 21 was discovered at the original owner's garage through Rudi Koniczek, owner of restoration shop Rudi and Company and restorer of six other alloy-bodied 1955 300 SLs. It was stored behind huge stacks of ancient computer equipment, collecting a healthy sheath of dust, after its transmission went out in the early 1970s. The owner, Tom Wellmer, had intended to repair the car and even managed to partially disassemble it, but somehow the project stalled and eventually was forgotten. It was so buried, Hemmings Blog reports, that it took three laborers two 10-hour days to clear away the surrounding computers so it could be inspected, and another day of moving to access the parts that had been taken off the car, stored on shelves at the back of the garage. Koniczek has purchased the car to restore it, and already has a buyer lined up, even before the car has been restored. It's no wonder, as beyond the car's rarity, it also has a number of high-performance modifications from a standard 300 SL, including Plexiglas windows, sportier suspension, unique wheels, bigger brakes, and a hotter engine. As awesome as this barn find is, Koniczek may be even cooler. Check out the video below, wherein he drives a 1957 300 SL Roadster chassis--naked--to shakedown the powertrain mid-restoration. Naturally, it's set to Kenny Loggins' Top Gear anthem, "Danger Zone."
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is no longer strapped down to a four-door design, and a new Mercedes ad shows how a coupe variant of the C-Class broke away from the sedan mold.
A Mercedes C63 AMG sedan chained down to a boulder floors it, and while one might expect something disastrous to happen, the four-door frees itself by shedding its rear doors. The remnants of the extra weight are left behind in shattered glass and twisted metal, but the coupe accelerates looking sleeker than ever. Predictably, this is one of those “don’t try this at home” moments…
The coupe is 100 pounds lighter without the rear doors, but still rides on the same 108.7-inch wheelbase as the sedan, and is only half an inch shorter. It also offers a sweeping panoramic sunroof, and with its new look, we think this new C-Class variant may be gunning straight for the BMW 3 Series coupe.
Do you think the Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe has a fair chance of going head-to-head with the BMW 3 Series coupe?

But that is set to change with the introduction of a more stylish and elegant version of the B-Class, unveiled at the Frankfurt auto show on Tuesday. Dieter Zetsche, chief executive of Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes, said that the car would be exported to the United States and that other new compact models would follow.
Mercedes is trying to catch up with its rivals Audi and BMW in offering cars that are more affordable for younger buyers, hoping to win them as customers early. Mercedes is also following a trend toward more fuel-efficient cars that still have luxury features. The B-Class will have a turbocharged engine and a radar collision prevention system as standard equipment.
Daimler is likely to export other variations of its expanding lineup of compact models as they come onto the market in coming years, Dr. Zetsche said. The company is responding to American dealers who are excited about the lineup, which is expected to grow to five vehicles, including a compact S.U.V., Dr. Zetsche added.
“Dealers expressed interest in all of them,” he said.
The new B-Class, which goes on sale in Europe in November but most likely will not arrive in the United States until 2013, strikes a more sporting stance than its predecessor. It sits lower to the ground, which takes away some of the minivan effect. To hold down production costs, Mercedes will build some of the cars in a new factory in Hungary.
“It’s a real Mercedes,” Thomas Weber, head of research and development at Daimler, said in an interview.
Mr. Weber said it was unlikely that all five planned compact models would come to North America, but they would all meet United States requirements just in case. Other new models will include a new A-Class, due in Europe next year; the S.U.V.; and a coupe.
“These five are perfectly designed for the global market,” he said.

Omni Auto reports that Mercedes-Benz will debut the F 125! gullwing coupe concept seen here at this week's Frankfurt Motor Show.
According to Omni Auto, the F 125! concept showcases M-B's design direction for the 2025 CL-Class. It's unknown if the German automaker intends to make a production CL that's fueled by hydrogen, but if the German automaker does, then Omni Auto says its likely that the setup featured in the F 125! that will be used. In this case, that means four electric motors cranking out a combined 231 horsepower. That level of grunt allows the F 125! to hit a top speed of 137 miles and zip from 0 to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds. According to Omni Auto's leaked information, Benz says the F 125! consumes 0.79 kilograms of hydrogen per 100 kilometers and that the stylish coupe can travel up to 621 miles on a full tank. As you can probably tell, the F 125! draws styling cues from the automaker's F800 Style concept, a four-door sedan that debuted at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. However, the prototype F 125! features a chassis made from a mix of carbon fiber, aluminum and plastics along with a unique carbon fiber tank to hold hydrogen at 700 bar. The gullwing's 10-kWh lithium-ion battery pack allows the 125 F! to travel approximately 31 miles before activation of the on-board fuel cell is required. Look for us to post live shots and more details on the Mercedes-Benz F 125! concept when it debuts in Frankfurt, but for the moment, be sure to check out the image gallery to see the concept's trick slide-out trunk and stylized design.Visit waltsmb.com to find your Mercedes-Benz today
